The Most Tattoed Person

The World’s Most Tattooed People: A Journey of Ink and Identity
For centuries, the human body has served as a canvas for artistic expression. Some individuals take this to the extreme, transforming themselves into walking works of art through extensive body modifications.
As a tattoo artist, you’ll encounter clients with diverse visions for their ink. Understanding their motivations allows you to create designs that bring their personal stories to life.

The Most Tattooed Man in the World: Lucky Diamond Rich
Lucky Diamond Rich, an Aboriginal Australian performance artist, holds the Guinness World Record for being the most tattooed man on the planet.
Born Greg Paul McLaren in New Zealand, he has covered every inch of his body with over 1,000 tattoos, including layers of black, white, and colored ink. Even his eyelids, ear canals, gums, and the spaces between his toes bear intricate designs. His middle name, “Diamond,” was given to him by friends who saw him as a “rough diamond.”
The Art of Collecting Tattoos
Lucky’s journey began at 16 when he joined the circus, performing daring acts such as juggling chainsaws, riding a ten-foot unicycle, and sword swallowing. His first tattoo—a small juggling club on his hip—sparked a passion that would shape his life.
At 18, he began investing his earnings as a street performer into more tattoos, integrating his body art into his performances. By 28, he had completed a full-body suit of black ink, which he later layered with white and colored ink to push artistic boundaries even further.
Despite his extreme transformation, Lucky Diamond Rich insists he doesn’t feel any different from anyone else. Beyond his life as a performer, he has also worked as a support worker in an Australian rehabilitation center, helping people struggling with addiction.

The Most Tattooed Woman in the World: Charlotte Guttenberg
In 2015, at age 69, Charlotte Guttenberg claimed the Guinness World Record for the most tattooed woman, with over 98.75% of her body covered in ink—including the back of her head.

Breaking Records as a Tattooed Senior Citizen
Charlotte and her partner have also earned the title of the most tattooed senior citizens, proving that body art knows no age limits.
Surprisingly, she didn’t get her first tattoo until her 50th birthday. Once she did, she immediately knew she wanted to pursue a full-body suit. Now, she uses her transformation to inspire others, promoting self-confidence and the cultural beauty of tattoo artistry.
Other Notable Heavily Tattooed Individuals
Julia Gnuse
Julia Gnuse, who previously held the record for the most tattooed woman, turned to ink as a solution for a rare skin disease that caused scarring. Nearly every inch of her body was eventually tattooed as a form of self-expression and protection.

Rick Genest (Zombie Boy)
Rick Genest, famously known as Zombie Boy, gained global recognition for his full-body skeleton tattoos. Before his passing in 2019, he worked as an actor and model, even starring in Lady Gaga’s Born This Way music video.

Tattoos are more than just ink on skin—they are personal stories, statements of identity, and, for some, a lifelong commitment to art. Whether your clients seek a single meaningful design or full-body transformation, understanding their motivations can help you create tattoos that truly resonate.
